April cold snap delivers second consecutive day of showers
THAT’S April in Victoria — sunny one day, snowing the next.
After a week of summer-like heat, it’s time to swap shorts and sunglasses for beanies and brollies with a wintry blast hitting the state.
Melburnians can expect a second consecutive day of showers with a top of 19C, and won’t see a return of temperatures in the high 20s until spring.
“We won’t see a return of those temperatures in the high 20s until spring,” he said.
“There is still going to be fairly fresh winds today.
“We are expecting temperatures to get back to the mid 20s however by the end of this week.”
Those in the south east in suburbs like Cranbourne and Berwick can expect a high chance of showers today, while the rest of Melbourne has a medium chance of showers.
The severe weather warning in place on the South Gippsland coast will start to wind back as the day rolls on, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.
Glenn Watson of the Mt Hotham Skiing Company said: “It is incredible to see our third snowfall of the year and we are only in April.”
Wild winds lashed Melbourne, Geelong, Gippsland and coastal towns elsewhere as winter gave notice it is just around the corner.
Chilly conditions and rain may linger in Melbourne until clear sunny skies return on Wednesday.
